Richard S. Shames MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Shames has over 25 years of experience in academic clinical medicine and the biotechnology/ pharmaceutical industry. He brings strong scientific and medical expertise to Siolta’s focus areas of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Previously he held leadership positions at Protagonist Therapeutics, Aldea Pharmaceuticals, Merck & Co. and Facet Biotech/ PDL Biopharma directing biologics, small molecule and peptide therapeutic drug development programs across multiple disease indications. He has led development programs for FDA-approved products in chronic psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and other autoimmune/ inflammatory diseases.

Dr. Shames previously held full time faculty positions in Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Stanford University Medical Center and University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed post-doctoral training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at U.C.S.F. and internship and residency in Pediatrics at Montefiore Hospital-Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York, earning Board Certification in Pediatrics and Allergy/ Clinical Immunology. Dr. Shames received his M.D. from University of California, Davis School of Medicine and B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University.
